The history of Penn-Mar Human Services dates back to 1980, when a group of concerned families from the states of Maryland and Pennsylvania met to discuss the future of their sons and daughters with mental disabilities. Back then, there was no local human services agency, and thus no program designed to meet the diverse needs of their adult children. In addition, families lacked the necessary support to assure their children retained the valuable skills they had learned in school during special education classes.
To remedy the situation, the families created a program that began in the Methodist Church of Maryland Line, MD. From that humble and courageous beginning springs the programs and services that today make up Penn-Mar Human Services. Today, Penn-Mar serves more than 200 individuals with developmental disabilities and/or human service needs with a range of vocational, residential, and support services.
At Penn-Mar, dedicated, professional staff members are committed to the development of individualized programs that empower individuals to exercise control over their lives. In short, Penn-Mar exists to encourage individuals to reach their full potential and to live their dreams. This is how Penn-Mar INK was conceived.
Penn-Mar INK was founded in the Fall of 2008. The purposed of Penn-Mar INK was to provide jobs for consumers through a new revenue stream for Penn-Mar to help reduce our reliance on governmental and community resources while promoting independence and self-determination for individuals with disabilities.
